the girl effect - in pictures
Last year as a part of the annual meeting of Young Global Leaders in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania I scribbled the drawing below to represent the content of the video above. It was inspiring to hear about the projects driven by the members of the YGL community, some of them designed specifically with the Girl Effect in mind. There are more videos and information to be found at GirlEffect.org.
Back in March this year I took my markers and joined Sita Magnuson at the Social Enterprise Conference at Harvard. Sita captured the presentation made by Beatrice Biira, pictured below. Beatrice is the Outreach Coordinator for Millennium Promise (MP) and Connect To Learn (CTL), and an inspiring example of the difference one girl can make.
It's an honor to help tell these stories, share the successes and try to communicate the seriousness of the condition for so many women and girls.
Personally, I know I can make a difference by treating everyone I meet with respect and dignity. I can help my niece grow up respecting herself and others. I can help her understand her opportunities and not be afraid to try. I can reach farther with my art. I can use tools like globalgiving.org to reach girls and families that I'll never meet in person.
It all counts.
Today, reaching farther is joining the 2011 Girl Effect Blogging Campaign.
